Welcome to DirtRodders.com... a site dedicated to dirt bike riders who love to tinker with their motorcycles, like the big bore dual-sport bikes. It features modifications, upgrades, pictures, videos, riding locations and more.

A few of us mid-thirties locals from Denver really like to get out and push our bikes (and bodies) to the limit, but the most fun of all is breaking and fixing stuff and making it better

Enjoy the pictures and videos from outings at Cyclefest in Copper Mountain, Grand Junction, Central City, Switzerland Trail, Pueblo Motorsports park and Rampart Range in Spring/Summer 2002, as well as tips, tricks and fun dirt biking stuff in general!

Mike's pursuit of the perfect all-around bike.

I recently heard someone ask "What's the perfect dual-sport bike?" Well, if you have been riding long enough, you realize the perfect dual-sport bike is a dirt bike and a street bike. Dual-sport bikes add a lot of weight to make them street-legal and more comfortable, but that reduces their performance off-road. So in the four years since I started this site, I have owned 7 different bikes, constantly searching for the ideal setup for street/dirt/touring/trail and track. There's things I have loved about every single bike, but as my riding ability and style has changed over the years, I have moved towards better performance on the street, trail and track. You simply can't have it all, yet. Unless you own seven bikes at once, this means you have to compromise something. Bikes like the new 2007 Yamaha WR450F are getting closer in my opinion, but we're still a long way off...

August 2, 2004 After almost a year long hiatus, I am finally back to riding and maintaining this site. To all my loyal site viewers, I apologize for the delay and the outdated content. The whole site will be updated soon.

Where was I all this time? Well, to make a long story short, I crashed. I crashed HARD. Last August, I participated in CycleFest in Copper Mountain, Colorado. It was a dual sport ride that took riders up and over some 13,000 ft passes. On the second day, riding over a mountain pass near Leadville on my Honda XR650R, I was hauling @$$ down a steep jeep trail trying to catch some friends, slid, hit a rock, flew end over end and landed in a ditch, unconscious. I had to ride back with a separated shoulder, probably a broken rib or two, and a very bruised ego. Even though it was painful, there is nothing that makes you feel more alive than a good jolt of pain! I would do it all over again if I had to... it was worth it.

The best part of the ordeal was when I got back to Copper Mountain, I was given permission to visit the exclusive Supermoto racer's medical facility, which was right next to Mike Metzger's and Jeremy McGrath's trailers. Very cool guys, but I am surprised at how little they are... I am 6'6" and it seemed like I was about a foot taller than most of the pro riders there. I guess that makes sense... the smaller you are, the less mass you have to carry around the track, which improves speed. Must be cool to be a professional racer. I spent a while recuperating, then ski season was here, and then I needed to get the money to replace all the bent and broken parts on my bike. I am now riding again, albeit a little more conservatively than before, and I have lots of cool parts to enjoy. So if anyone is still visiting this site from time to time, check back... I promise it will be updated very soon.
